Patas monkey in Swahili: unknown (Erythrocebus patas)

Length (excluding tail): 75 – 85 cm; 7 – 12 kg. This localised terrestrial monkey is larger and spindlier than vervet, with an orange-tinged coat and black forehead stripe. Essentially a nkey of the dry northwestern savannah, the patas occurs in low numbers in the Mbalageti River region of the western Serengeti. It is very fast on the ground, atteining speeds of up to 55 km/h.
