Oryx in Swahili: choroa (Oryx gazella)

Shoulder height: 120 cm; weight: 230 kg. This regal, dry-country antelope is unmistakable withits ash-grey coat, bold black facial marks and flank stripe, and unique long, straight horns. The fringe-eared oryx (Oryx beisa callotis) is the only race found in Tanzania, where it is most common (though still scarce) in Mkomazi and Tarangire national parks, and the Lake Natron region.
