Bat-eared Fox in Tanzania

Bat-eared fox in Swahili: bweha masikio (Otocyon megalotis)

Shoulder height: 30–35 cm; weight 35 kg. This small, silver-grey insectivore, unmistakable with its huge ears and black eye-mask, is most often seen in pairs or small family groups during open country, the bat-eared fox is quite common in the Serengeti and likely to be encountered at least once in the course of a few days’ safari, particularly during the denning season (November and December).
